The Science Behind the Solution

Our home’s siding is exposed to the rigors of Mother Nature all day, every day, for years. The weather here in Westchester can include anything from, rain, snow ice and wind. Add to that the stress of the sun, freeze-thaw cycles, and pests and it doesn’t take much to imagine that all this can spell trouble for your home’s siding. That’s why James Hardie’s hardworking products are so unique, they are engineered to stand up beautifully, to all of the natural elements.

After studying the long-term effects of different climates on siding performance, James Hardie® was able to map out ten distinct scientific zones in North America.

James Hardie® discovered that although each of these climates is slightly different, they all share some common attributes. Climates in Zones 1-5 (*our zone HZ5®) tends to experience extreme seasonal temperature variations, freezing conditions, snow, and ice, while climates in Zones 6-10 tend to face challenges with tropical storms, heat, and humidity. Therefore, James Hardie® created two different siding products for each region. They are called HZ5® and HZ10®.

Here in the Tri-County area, we see extreme temperature variations, rapid-freeze thaw cycles in winter, and blazing, humid hot summer days.
