Who is the Marvin Windows company?

Marvin Windows is a Marvin is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated business headquartered in Warroad, Minn., with approximately 5,500 employees across 15 cities throughout North America.

Do my windows need to be ENERGY STAR certified to be energy efficient?

The short answer is no.

While an ENERGY STAR label can be helpful in identifying energy-efficient windows, every home is unique.

  • ENERGY STAR provides a one-size-fits-all guideline but does not take into consideration, for example, the orientation of the house or the number or size of windows and associated Solar Heat Gain.
  • A window expert like my team can help determine which products will work best for you. ENERGY STAR also recognizes products that meet high energy-efficiency guidelines.

I need new windows. What’s the first thing I need to know when it comes to windows and energy efficiency?

Replacing windows with energy-efficient ones can help reduce your utility bills, but the benefits go much further.  Choosing energy-efficient windows makes your home more comfortable, as their performance determines how much heat comes in and escapes out through the windows.

How do I know if a window or a door is energy efficient?

Certification programs such as those administered by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) and ENERGY STAR provide ratings designed to indicate a window or door’s efficiency.  Various performance ratings – like U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient – measure a product’s effectiveness in insulating and blocking heat from the sun, among other things.  See the Glossary of Terms.

Energy-efficient windows can help reduce your utility bills and make your home more comfortable. Not to mention the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re helping the planet by minimizing your home’s environmental impact. Marvin offers a variety of window and door options that help you achieve long-term performance and energy cost savings, in any climate.

What are Marvin windows made of?

There are a variety of window materials that can improve performance and complement the architecture of your home.

Consider the exterior and interior materials your windows are made of. Both materials can greatly impact the comfort and appearance of your home, in the short and long term.

Marvin, approaches materials differently, holding themselves to the highest standards for material selection, sourcing, and development. Marvin’s window and door materials—wood, extruded aluminum, High-Density Fiberglass and Ultrex® fiberglass each offer unique benefits. The window team at GIANT can help recommend the right window/material with the right attributes for your home.

Do Marvin windows have a lifetime warranty?

Yes, Marvin® brand windows and doors are covered by an industry-leading Limited Warranty.

Marvin vs Andersen - Which is Better?

For homeowners looking for a broader selection of windows and even window availability Marvin windows win.

Pair that with Marvins much larger color and trim types and you hardly have a race. Stack the fact that Marvin offers a seamless warranty process and you’ll see why we don’t touch Anderson windows.

If the price is the only factor, Andersen’s windows are back in the game for most homeowners when you look at all the options – Marvin is going to end up on top.

Fact: Each of these window lines is different, and depending on your window options like materials, and optional upgrades, they each have the ability to come with a vast variation on their respective price tags. Price is always a consideration when shopping for windows especially when you competitively and comparably show windows for an area w like Westchester where we see the extremes of each of the four-season.

Simply obtaining a quote for each won’t give you a good means for comparison, however. It’s important to do your homework and ask some deeper questions we can help you during our consult.

We will cover how long you plan to stay in your home, what kind of design options you want to explore (Anderson has a pretty slim set of options), and lastly what are your environmental challenges? Each home faces the four seasons here in Westchester differently.

Can you explain Low E coatings?

Low E stands for low emissivity.

Low Emittance, or Low E, is a razor-thin, colorless, non-toxic coating applied to window glass to improve energy efficiency.

Microscopically thin, transparent metal or metallic oxide layers deposited on a glass surface suppress radiative heat flow and reflect interior infrared energy (heat) back to the inside, reducing heat loss through the glass. Various Low E coating options can manipulate heat gain to match different climate needs.

The ability of a material to radiate energy (heat) is called its emissivity. Extremely thin coatings of special low emissivity (Low E) metallic material are applied to glass panes used in windows and doors to boost their energy efficiency. Low E coatings, usually applied to the inside layers of insulating glass, manage the amount of light and heat either conducted through a window or reflected away from it.
